In 1935 Dr. Jean Michel Sarraf founded the Sarraf Pharmacy in Northern Lebanon. The operation entailed local preparation of medicines and filing of prescriptions.
In 1951 Le Comptoir National De La Droguerie Sarraf was established in downtown Beirut. It distributed pharmaceutical and cosmetic products throughout the nation.
Since then, the small family business has soared to become a leader in multiple fields, a local player with global reach.

In 1986 the name Malia sprang from "Mal" meaning money in Arabic, a translation of "Sarraf" meaning "Exchanger" going from family brand culture to corporate.
